International students who do not satisfy the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree can undertake a Foundation Studies program. You are guaranteed a place in your chosen undergraduate degree at UNSW on completion.
Foundation Studies programs
Our programs are specifically designed for international students. You will also be eligible to apply for undergraduate degrees at other universities. Our programs are recognised by all Australian and New Zealand universities, and by select universities around the world.
Programs are offered across four major disciplines, each with two specialisation streams:
Commerce/Business: Commerce and Commerce/Actuarial
Science/Engineering: Physical Sciences and Life Sciences
Arts/Humanities: International Studies and Arts/Social Sciences
Design: Fine Arts and Design & Built Environment

Standard Plus program:
12 monthsRecommended for students who would like a slower pace of study and with moderate English language proficiency (IELTS 5.5, with a minimum 5.0 in all bands, or equivalent).

Standard program:
9 monthsTo enter our Standard Program, you must have completed 11 or 12 years of schooling (eg GaoEr/GaoSan, O/A levels, SMA 2/3, HKDSE forms 5/6) with good grades and strong English language proficiency. Students should have an IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent) with a 5.0 in all bands (or equivalent), and may apply using Semester 1 (Year 11 or 12) school results.

Transition program:
19 weeksFor international students who need to further their knowledge in a subject area, who possess very strong English proficiency (IELTS 6.0, with a 5.5 in Writing, and 5.0 or above in other sub-bands, or equivalent).

Foundation English Entry course (FEEC)
10/15/20 weeksFor those who meet the academic requirements for a Foundation Studies program but whose English language proficiency is moderate (IELTS 5.0 or equivalent). You can complete this program before starting a UNSW Foundation Studies program. For more information please visit the UNSW Global website.
