Last year, Indian student Ashok Mathews sat down to work out what is would take to realise his ultimate dream; to own and run a popular lounge bar and restaurant in his home city of Bangalore.
That led the 27-year old to the Australian School of Business and a Master of Commerce degree in Marketing.
Ashok could see the “big potential” for the hospitality sector in India as incomes rise, but realised he needed the deeper understanding of marketing an international education could offer.
“What then drove me towards Australia was its robust economy and then I considered the great credentials of the Australian School of Business and its reputation in the Asia Pacific region,” he says.
He also believes the ASB allows students to begin the vital process of business networking early because of the depth of the School’s links to prominent business leaders, politicians and public figures in both Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Ashok is already re-imagining his future restaurant as more than a local meeting place. Instead, he wants to create a “global hospitality experience” where everyone is welcome and with Australian beers on the drinks list.
