The UNSW Institute of Languages offers courses that provide first-class
preparation for study at UNSW through its Academic English programs.
Courses are specifically designed to improve students’ English language
skills in order to meet the UNSW English entry requirements and to
successfully undertake studies at UNSW.
Course Details:
The University English Entry Course (UEEC)
The UEEC has been specifically developed for students who have received conditional offers from UNSW but do not meet the UNSW English entry requirements. It provides an outstanding preparation experience for your academic study. The course is offered as a 10, 15 or 20 week program with the following key features;
- On successful completion of the UEEC you progress directly into
your degree program and do not need to retake an IELTS or similar test
- Approximately 90% of students pass the courses and progress directly to UNSW
- Course material is based on authentic UNSW resources including lectures, readings and assessment tasks
- Lessons are based on the way English is actually used at university
to familiarise you with the types of tasks and activities that will be
part of your studies at UNSW
- The UEEC is more than just an English language courses. It is
conducted on campus at UNSW and provides you with the opportunity to
familiarise yourself with the campus, facilities and support services
and to build a network of fellow students before commencing your degree.
Pre-Foundation Year English (PFY)
The Pre-Foundation Year English (PFY) course is designed to assist you develop the English language
skills required to successfully complete a UNSW Foundation Studies course. Key features of the course include;
- On successful completion of the PFY course, you do not need to retake
an IELTS or similar test and you are admitted directly into your UFS
course
- Approximately 90% of PFY students successfully enter UFS
- The course develops English proficiency and academic study skills you
need for success in UFS including: presentation and discussion skills,
listening and note-taking, research and academic writing
- You are
taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers who understand the
special needs of Foundation Studies students and provide you with the
support and advice you need
- Specifically designed learning resources are enhanced through the use of online learning and teaching activities
- Conducted at UNSW’s Randwick or Kensington campus, the course provides
you with the opportunity to familiarise yourself with UNSW and all its
facilities and support services, while building a network of fellow
students before commencing your UNSW undergraduate degree
- You can package your PFY, UFS and UNSW degree program under one visa covering the entire period of study for all courses.

is included as part of the UNSW Foundation Studies ‘English Plus’

The Tertiary Orientation Program (TOP)
The Tertiary Orientation Program is designed to assist you to further develop your Academic English skills and make a successful transition to academic study at UNSW. The focus is on developing research and report writing skills, advanced critical thinking strategies and enabling you to participate confidently and effectively in academic discussions.
