Tuition fees
The main expense is tuition fees.
You can check the tuition fees in the Tuition Fee Schedule which states the fees for each faculty, and are quoted for one unit of credit (UOC). You can also download the 2012 indicative fees for first year and to complete UNSW degree programs in the column on the left.
Most courses are six units of credit, you need to multiply these figures by six to work out the cost of one course.
Full-time study at UNSW generally consists of four courses per semester or eight courses per year, so you need to multiply the figures again according to the number of courses you are taking.
| ($625 x 6 x 4) + ($645 x 6 x 4) | = $15,000 + $15,480 |
| = $30,480 |
Other costs
Some courses have additional costs, for expenses such as laboratory kits, field trips and equipment. These costs are compulsory and are usually additional to the tuition fees. Textbooks are not a compulsory cost, but you should budget about AUD1000 per year for them.

Health insurance
While studying in Australia on a student visa, you will need health insurance, known as Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Recent Australian Government changes requires you to purchase health insurance for the full length of your Visa. For example, a typical degree program is three years, so you will need to purchase 36 months worth of health cover. There are a number of registered providers of OSHC and UNSW's preferred supplier is Medibank. *
*As per contract agreement with Medibank Private LTD, UNSW receives commission from Medibank Private LTD to act as a preferred supplier of Overseas Student Health Cover for all UNSW International Students.
