Choosing the right destination for you is an important decision. We recommend that you follow these procedures to organise your Practicum Exchange:
Step 1. Consider your motivation and find out about the practicum exchange program
Why do you want to undertake a Practicum Exchange:
You should attend a practicum information session to get further information about the program and application process.
You can also book an appointment to discuss your plans with the Practicum Exchange Advisor
Step 2. Obtain approval from your UNSW supervisor or Faculty
You should discuss your proposed research options with your UNSW Supervisor, UNSW Program Coordinator or Faculty and gain their approval.
Step 3. Find and Contact a Host Supervisor
Research potential supervisors at a partner university and contact the supervisors to ask if they are willing to take you on.
Step 4. Prepare and lodge your application
Once you have found a supervisor who has agreed to take you on you should complete your application. This should include:
Ensure that you lodge your application at the Global Education Office in plenty of time.
Step 5. Notification of acceptance
The Global Education Office will contact the partner institution’s International Office to check their application requirements. The final decision on your acceptance is at the discretion of the partner institution. The partner institution will send you notification of your application, and if accepted, information on your enrolment.
Deadlines will vary according to the institution. Please contact the Global Education and Practicum advisor for further information.
When looking for an appropriate supervisor, it is important to align the area you wish to research with that of the proposed supervisor. Supervisors are often found through connections with our partner institutions through UNSW staff. You should discuss your proposal with your UNSW supervisor or UNSW faculty; and seek their approval. If there is no existing research connection we recommend researching authors of Journal articles related to your research area or searching the staff or research pages at our partner institution websites. You can select the region where you wish to go on exchange and view the research or staff directory to find their areas of research and contact information.
For information on available scholarships please go the Practicum Exchange Scholarship page.
Students undertaking research at a non-partner institution are expected to notify the Global Education and Student Exchange Office of their proposed mobility. If their research is a part of their UNSW program students may be covered by UNSW travel insurance. Please contact the PEP advisor for further details.
