Application Process
Choosing the right destination for you is an important decision. We recommend that you follow these procedures to organise your Practicum Exchange:
- Consider your motivation to go on a Practicum Exchange
- Register online for the Practicum Exchange Program Information session here. Students can collect an application pack during this session.
- Obtain approval from your UNSW program authority
- Research potential supervisors at partner institutions
- Contact the Host Supervisor
- Prepare your Application
- Lodge your application and supporting documentation with the UNSW Global Education Office.
- You will receive notification of your nomination to the partner institution 2-4 weeks after application submission. Students may then need to complete a secondary application to the Partner University. Students should submit the application forms to the UNSW Global Education Office who will forward it to the partner.
- You will be notified if accepted by the partner institution.
Deadlines
For a Practicum exchange of one semester or more, applications should be received by the Global Education Office in April and September each year for a practicum placement in the following semester. Practicum exchanges of less than three months should be received by the Global Education Office at least 2 months in advance.
Finding an appropriate supervisor
When looking for an appropriate supervisor, it is important to align the area you wish to research with that of the proposed supervisor. Supervisors are often found through connections with our partner institutions through UNSW staff. You should discuss your proposal with your UNSW supervisor or UNSW faculty; and seek their approval. If there is no existing research connection we recommend researching authors of Journal articles related to your research area or searching the staff or research pages at our partner institution websites. You can select the region where you wish to go on exchange and view the research or staff directory to find their areas of research and contact information.
