Global Networks

Universitas 21 (U21) is a leading global network of research-intensive universities that empowers its members to share excellence, collaborate across borders and nurture global knowledge exchange. Committed to promoting the value of internationalisation and multinational collaboration, U21 facilitates the delivery of programmes, activities and initiatives, which could not be delivered through a single university or via bi-lateral agreements.

In 1997, UNSW became a founding member of Universitas 21 (U21) as a way of advancing areas of common interest with a consortium of like-minded research-intensive universities. U21 is a major part of UNSW’s 2025 international strategy. U21 membership offers UNSW the opportunity to advance its global profile-raising agenda through visibility among 25 of the world’s best, and highly internationalised institutions that share our vision of a modern research and teaching intensive university.

We leverage collective education and research capabilities of our members into the international public policy process. Our primary research areas include natural hazards & disaster risk reduction, women in leadership, population aging, global health, sustainable cities, artificial intelligence & the future of work, the Pacific Ocean, and labor mobility.
