Check up at the doctor

Routine healthcare

If you need medical help but it’s not an emergency, you should consult a general practitioner (GP). The GP diagnoses your condition and recommends treatment. If necessary, the GP will refer you to a specialist or a hospital. You cannot go to a specialist without first going to a GP.

Emergencies

If you have been in an accident and/or you need emergency help, you should go directly to the emergency section of a hospital. The doctors and nurses in the emergency section will assess the urgency of your condition and arrange for you to receive medical care. The emergency number in Australia is 000.
