2

Check what qualifications you need

6

Receive a letter of acknowledgment from UNSW

Once your application has been received and registered by the Admissions Office you will receive a letter of acknowledgment. If further documents are required you will be informed in this letter. Once you have received this letter with your student ID number, it is possible to check your undergraduate and postgraduate application status online.

Hints:
UNSW receives thousands of International Applications each year. To ensure a quality learning experience, UNSW maintains very high entry requirements. As a result the application assessment process is thorough and takes time - Usually about six weeks.

7

An offer letter is sent to successful applicants

Hints:
A Conditional Offer will be made to those applicants who meet the academic entry requirements but not the English language proficiency requirement. In most cases a Conditional Offer remains valid for one year - once proof of English language proficiency is submitted a Full Offer will then be issued for the next available semester. Any exemptions to be granted for previous tertiary study will be noted in the Offer Letter.
If requested, a Package Offer which includes a period of English study can be issued to students who meet the academic entry requirements and have the necessary minimum IELTS score. As an approximate guide an overall minimum score of 5.0 would normally be required. You can contact the Admissions Office for further details.

8

Accepting the offer

Follow the acceptance instructions outlined in the offer and pay the required tuition fees deposit of AUD$4000 and the compulsory Overseas Students Health Cover(OSHC). Please read the Acceptance Procedures Guide for full details.
Please note tuition fees and other study related costs will be outlined in your letter of offer. By signing the acceptance which comes with this offer you are accepting the fees as provided in the offer. Consider these carefully as there may be a difference in the fees as listed in University publications, prospectuses and website.

Hints:
Due to high demand for places, you are encouraged to return your reply form and deposit, if applicable, within 4 weeks.  Please note, while early acceptance is preferred, it may be possible for you to accept your offer provided the quota for the program has not been reached. When accepting the offer and deciding when to arrive in Sydney please consider the time it may take to have your student visa issued and the time you may need to find accommodation and settle in to Sydney.

9

A electronic Confirmation of Enrolment is issued and sent to you.

You will need an eCOE in order to get a student visa.

10

Receiving an information pack from the Admissions Office

This will provide details about enrolment, life at UNSW and how to book temporary accommodation. Packs are sent out starting about two months before the start of semester. Questions concerning content of programs, course timetabling and credit for previous studies should be referred to the appropriate Faculty office.

11

Attend Enrolment and Orientation Program

10-14 days before the start of semester you will attend enrolment at the University and take part in an Orientation Program specifically designed to help all new international students adjust to life at UNSW and in Sydney.

Good Luck

So many steps; but you have made it to the next level - now the real work begins! Good luck.

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH:

If you are considering applying for a PhD or research Master degree we suggest before submitting your application you look at the online information about the Faculty offering programs in your area and the UNSW Postgraduate Research website. Read through the FAQs section of this web site.

Once you have identified the people working in your chosen area please make direct contact with them to discuss a proposal. If this person agrees to be a supervisor then put in a formal application. The documents required with your application are listed on the application form. There is an application fee of AUD$100.

Alternatively, you can use the Apply Online service which has an application fee of only AUD$50. Please note that to use this service you must have a credit card (either a Visa or Mastercard).

You can of course send in an application for a research degree without having organised a supervisor. However, if you have a supervisor arranged, the application and assessment process will proceed much faster. Research applications can take 12 weeks or more to fully process.

Please check the Scholarships Unit web site for details of awards available to postgraduate research students.

For students who have already submitted an application, the Postgraduate Section of the Admissions Office can assist with any enquiries you may have.
