UNSW StaffThe UNSW Exchange Program Office greatly appreciates the continuing work of staff members with our office regarding exchange and practicum programs or visitor receptions. This work helps to keep our program working and maintains the vital international linkages UNSW has around the world.
AVAILABLE FUNDING Submissions for UMAP funding occur on an annual basis. Typically in April of each year, the Dean of your Faculty will be advised of the application deadline for UMAP submissions for the following year. Further information can be found on the UMAP website and by contacting Pauline Taylor. Some of our exchange partners do provide funding and in some countries there is central funding available for students going on exchange. Relevant universities and countries can be found on our partner list
EXCHANGE INTERVIEWS As part our selection process for our UNSW outbound exchange students, the Exchange office interviews every student who applies for exchange to determine their suitability and preparedness for the program. Interviews are held every June and November for 2 weeks each and require the participation of a UNSW staff member from outside the Exchange Office to ensure equity. If you are willing to volunteer either a morning or afternoon to participate in the interview process please contact Anna.
PROMOTING THE EXCHANGE PROGRAM TO UNSW STUDENTS We believe that exchange is an important part of a student's degree and we want to encourage all students to consider this great opportunity. The Exchange Office holds regular activities to provide information on the UNSW Exchange Program to students, including Exchange Information Sessions and our biannual Expo. While the Exchange Office looks after the administration side of exchange, it is our academic colleagues who can inspire students to participate in this great opportunity. One of the best ways for students to become aware of the exchange opportunities available to them is to give us 5 -10 minutes during a lecture at the beginning of semester to talk to your students. If your School or Faculty is running a short program overseas please let us know as we would be delighted to give a pre departure briefing to your students. If you are running promotional activities for students we would also be delighted to talk to your students about the exchange opportunities for your faculty.
APPLICATION PROCESS Students need to apply for exchange about 9 months before their intended departure. Please view the application process for further information. Part of the exchange application form requires students to complete a transfer of credit form and get approval for the courses they want to take while on exchange. By approving the subjects that students intend to undertake while on exchange, you are in effect recognizing the courses at the partner intuition as being compatible in content and standing to those at UNSW. If upon arrival at the partner university, students find that a course is not available you may be asked to re approve courses. Students are not permitted to take courses without faculty approval. Further information is also available on the transfer form. The exchange application form also requires one academic reference. It is in the interest of the student and the program that you complete the academic reference as honestly as possible.
