OutboundAs all of our returning UNSW exchange students say Exchange is the time of your life!
In total, all of the benefits of the exchange experience are excellent building blocks for your future prospects. We are sure that not only will you have the time of your life, but will also gain a competitive edge in the employment market by demonstrating your self motivation, international viewpoint and skills.
For this, and a million other great reasons, we at the UNSW International Exchange Program urge you to look further at this web site, download the International Exchange Program Prospectus, examine our Partner list and apply for exchange. As we say at UNSW Exchange 'Just Go!'
Choosing the right exchange destination for you is an important decision. You not only need to research the subjects and academic programs available at our partner universities, you also need to think about your personal, social and recreational interests. After considering your aims for studying overseas you need to investigate the courses that are available and this research can take several months. All the research that you do will strengthen your decisions and your application. The application process takes about 9 months from date of application lodgement and students should expect to spend about 6 weeks prior to this researching their exchange options.
If you are a UNSW students and have completed at least one full-time session of your degree studies at UNSW and have a satisfactory academic record then you can apply to go on Exchange. Please note that students with more than 1 fail on their transcript are not eligible for exchange.
Who Can Apply for Exchange?
* For the purposes of exchange, Local students are defined as being Permanent Residents or Citizens of Australia.
Important questions to consider:
What are my objectives and reasons for wanting to study overseas?
What are my financial needs and limitations?
How will I finance 6 months or a year overseas?
When would be the best time in my course to go?
While on exchange, students pay their normal UNSW tuition and student activity fees. Students are enrolled in a relevant exchange code(s) according to the courses they are intending to transfer back to their UNSW degree. This is for 24-units of credit and determines the student contribution or tuition band fee for the exchange course(s) and therefore the amount students are charged. This is not negotiable even where a student may be taking 18 units of credit on exchange.
As a general rule of thumb, you should be able to demonstrate that you will have AUD $1,800 available to you for every month that you will be on exchange. Some universities and countries may have requirements that are higher than this amount to issue you a student visa, so please ask an adviser for more information.
It is important to realise that you cannot rely on finding part-time work while you are overseas to help fund your exchange. Most countries have strict limitations on work entitlements for visiting students.
SCHOLARSHIPS UNSW places great importance on developing a global outlook for its graduates and as a result offers the following scholarships...
