Returning Home and Graduation Seminar

ISS conducts a series of Returning Home Seminars for all completing international students during the second half of both academic sessions. For more details and registration, please refer to ISNews on the website or contact ISS.

Why Should I be Worried About Going Home? It Is Not a Foreign Country!

Think Back when you arrived in Australia. Did you find it difficult to adjust? People who have lived overseas for over 12 months often find that adjusting to returning home is more difficult than their adjustment to living in a new culture. Why? Expectations are an important factor. When you came to Australia, you expected change, to speak a different language, to make a new friends, and to learn the customs of a new different culture ... but home ... you know that place!

The Challenges of Returning Home

Remember that you have changed while you lived and studied at UNSW. Your family and friends have also changed and it is simply impossible to return to the way things were when you first departed.

Upon return to your home country, you will experience a phenomenon called "reverse culture shock". This is very similar to the initial period of adjustment you went through when you first arrived in Sydney.

Returning Home and Graduation booklet is intended to help you make preparations before returning home. IT includes a useful checklist of 'things to do' before and after completing your studies.

Valedictory Function - Farewell to International Graduands

A farewell Valedictory function is held to congratulate those international students who are completing their studies. It will be a fun evening of food, drinks and good company. The invitation cards will be mailed out to students. Please refer to the invitation and register with ISS Reception before RSVP date.
