International Student Services (ISS) offers international students a variety of programs, workshops/ seminars and other social activities and excursions.

 
These are designed to help students adapt to living in Australia, as well as making friends and learning about other cultures and each other.

2009 DAY TRIPS AND SHORT HOLIDAYS

One enjoyable way of learning about Australia and meeting people is to participate in the day trips and short holidays organised by ISS. These trips provide opportunities to see some of the beautiful Australian countryside, visit historical places of interest, and, of course, have some fun!
 
 
 
Wine and Whale Weekend - The best of two worlds, Wine and Whales! Experience migrating whales to the fine tastes of Hunter Valley, to the beautiful beaches of Stockton Beach, and don't forget about the great city of Newcastle!
DATES: Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 October 2009
 
Halloween Cruise* - Dress up in your scariest Halloween costume and join in the fun on this great Halloween Cruise which includes 3hrs of cruising the beautiful Sydney Harbour, a DJ and light show and lots of fun games by the cruise director.  Afterwards there'll be a party at Cargo Bar.

REGISTRATION

To register for one of our trips:

  • Pick up an itinerary from ISS reception for more information on each tour
  • PAY IN FULL before the registration deadline at the International Student Services, Ground Floor, Goodsell Building. All trips, except for those with an *, must be booked and paid for at ISS.
  • Please note that if a trip has an * next to it, you have to register directly with Colourful trips. Please go to the Colourful Trips website to register, www.colourfultrips.com or call on 02 9318 0853.

Refunds will only be given if:

You cancel your reservation AT LEAST 5 WORKING days before the trip date in the case of a day trip ($10 administration charge applies) or AT LEAST 21 DAYS before a short holiday
The trip is cancelled due to insufficient number of registrations (you will be notified if such cancellations occur).

Children

Children are welcome to all events provided they are supervised by parents.
 
 


SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

  

HOLIDAY PROGRAM 2009 - Summer Sizzle & Winter Warmup!

Every Summer and Winter break, ISS organises a program of activities giving students the chance to get out and explore Sydney. This Winter the Winter Warm Up program includes a trip to The Snowy Mountains,  a Harbour Cruise, the Pylon lookout, BBQs, a Nightlife Tour at The Rocks, and lots more. ON CAMPUS

 
 
As a new international student you need to make sure that you take the first step to get involved on what happens on campus. UNSW has a wide range of student organisations which aim to represent the various interests of all students. These organisations promote student development and provide services for all students. These services include: a security shuttle bus for students on campus a night, a second hand bookshop, free legal aid and welfare services. There is also ARC, which has many student clubs and organises various activities and events for students.
 
ARC also operates the Roundhouse, a student entertainment venue offering free or discounted entertainment to students. The Roundhouse also organises annual festivals, such as Oktoberfest and Mooncake Yum Cha.  For more details please go to the ARC website at www.arc.unsw.edu.au
 
Student are encouraged to participate and get involved in the numerous programs aimed at providing students with essential skills and an opportunity to meet new people. Some of these programs include;
- UNSW Peer Mentoring Programs
- Mosaic Fusion Forums: promoting cultural diversity awareness throughout the community
- Oral Blitz: information about "what's on" around campus
- Arts Week and Unsweetened: a celebration of the arts and literature
Other services offered to students by the student organisation include graduation gown hire, computer labs, your free student diary, recreational and skilled courses, childcare, Contact information and referral service, photocopying, binding and printing services. ARC operates many of the food and
retail outlets on campus, which offer a 10% discount on most of their products to students.
 

Sports Association

Don't forget that Recreation Courses start at the beginning of each session. These courses include abseiling, rock climbing, ballroom dancing, cross country skiing and many more activities. The handbook is distributed around campus including the ISS Student Lounge so look out for it!

Life Style Centre

The Lifestyle Centre has a comprehensive array of sport, recreational programs and facilities to suit people of all ages. Industry experts are always on hand for consultation to assist you in choosing an activity or program which will best suit your needs. The Lifestyle Centre is open 7 days a week.
