Services and Activities Provided
 
1. Positioning and Engagement:
Enhance UNSW's international standing and global influence
UNSW International is the principal interface between the university and the rest of the world but in particular with:
  • Overseas Governments
  • Overseas instrumentalities and agencies such as sponsoring authorities
  • Local diplomatic communities
  • Australian diplomatic missions
  • Key stakeholders such as Alumni, education representatives such as IDP, AusAID, AEI, Austrade, selected Chambers of Commerce
  • Key professional associations such as IEAA, NAFSA and EAIE
  • Partner universities and institutes of strategic importance
  • International research partners
  • Selected education sectors such as international schools, polytechnics and colleges
UNSW International positions the university in the Asian region and other regions through high level engagement at special events, receptions, symposia and education conferences.

2. Strategic International Marketing:
Position UNSW globally as a high quality education destination of first preference for international students.
UNSW International will maintain a highly qualified and diverse cohort of international students drawn from a wide range of countries across a diversity of academic programs. UNSW International, in conjunction with the International Strategies Committee and Faculties, develops strategies to ensure a commitment to quality underpins all facets of our international programs as demonstrated by:
  • Provision of pre-university education programs of the highest quality
  • The prestigious Golden Jubilee Scholarship scheme available to the top performing diplomates from partner polytechnics and colleges in Singapore and Malaysia respectively
  • Building linkages with institutions of similar standing around the world to ensure UNSW maintains position of influence in the international education arena
  • Development and maintenance of comprehensive and structured articulation arrangements with selected partner institutions
  • Strict compliance with all aspects of the ESOS legislation that was introduced by the Australian Government in 2000 and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students, adopted by the Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee in 2000 and more recently updated in 2005.
UNSW International has put in place rigorous selection criteria for the appointment of education representatives in key student source countries to ensure that prospective students and their families receive comprehensive and accurate information about all facets of education at UNSW from locally appointed representatives.

3. Promoting Diversity:
To promote a harmonious and culturally diverse learning environment that equips all UNSW students for enhanced global opportunities
UNSW has a proud tradition spanning over 50 years of enrolling international students from developing countries sponsored by relevant government authorities and agencies, and more recently enrolling international students on a private basis from over 130 countries, giving the university a major global position.
UNSW International works closely with Faculties, other internal service providers and UNSW entities to ensure students from around the world are welcomed into our university community and build lifelong International friendships and networks.
UNSW International in partnership with Associate Deans (International), encourages students to participate in study and social activities designed to foster integration.
UNSW International engages Faculties and the broader university community to maximise the global employment opportunities of all students.

4.Cohesive Promotion and Marketing:
To market the breadth and depth of academic programs at UNSW to ensure the multi-faceted nature of the University is presented in a seamless and cohesive fashion.
UNSW International works closely with staff at the Institute of Languages, the Foundation Year Program, UNSW Admissions and UNSW Faculties to ensure the broad range of education programs and student services are presented cohesively and seamlessly to prospective international students.
UNSW International adopts a student centred approach to the provision of information and advice for prospective students to ensure they are able to gain a positive insight into all facets of the university.
UNSW International will always appoint a representative of the international office to lead all offshore recruitment missions to ensure students receive a complete overview of academic programs and student services offered by the University. The International Office representative will be responsible for quality assuring all aspects of the recruitment process and will act as a conduit between students and the UNSW Admissions Office to expedite application outcomes.
To support the recruitment process the International Office provides a range of high quality promotional materials detailing all academic programs and services available to prospective international students. These services are augmented by a 'state of the art' international online advisory service which enables prospective students to electronically discuss their academic program options with highly trained student advisors. UNSW International promotes a highly professional and holistic approach to inbound and outbound international students. The recruitment of international students is undertaken within a comprehensive international framework as illustrated in the following diagram:

Through the Australian Universities International Directors Forum, The Canberra and New South Wales Directors of International Programs (CANDIP) and the Group of Eight International Director's Committee, UNSW International Benchmarks its activities with other Australian universities.

5. UNSW International in concert with representatives of Faculties and New South Global mounts international recruitment missions to over 25 countries each year.
Wherever possible UNSW International staff participate in a range of events and exhibitions with representatives of Faculties and pre-University education programs to interact with prospective students and their families so that they receive information at first hand directly from UNSW staff and are able to clarify key program information and services provided so that they make informed decisions about their academic selection.
 
  • While international students are drawn from over 130 countries worldwide, the University participates in a range of offshore activities such as education fairs and exhibitions, student interview programs, UNSW seminars, visits to partner institutions, schools-based presentations and offshore representative briefings in 20 countries including:
